Czym jest Agentic Commerce i dlaczego zmieni e-commerce?

E-commerce has been developing for many years towards increasing automation and personalization. First, online stores replaced traditional catalogs, then marketplaces simplified access to thousands of products, and later artificial intelligence began to support customer service, marketing, and data analysis. The next stage of this evolution is Agentic Commerce, a new business model in which artificial intelligence not only helps customers find products but actively participates in the entire purchasing process.

For online store owners, e-commerce managers, and companies planning to develop online sales, this means a huge shift in the way they think about sales. In the future, competition will not only be about who has the best website, the lowest price, or the biggest advertising budget. Increasingly, it will be about whether a brand is well-prepared to cooperate with intelligent shopping agents.

Agentic Commerce can change the way customers discover products, make purchasing decisions, and finalize transactions. Stores that prepare for this trend early enough can gain a significant competitive advantage.

What is Agentic Commerce and how does it work?

Agentic Commerce is a sales model in which autonomous AI agents support or perform specific purchasing actions on behalf of the user. An agent is not a classic chatbot that answers questions. It is a more advanced system that can analyze customer needs, interpret context, compare products, recommend solutions, and, in the future, also carry out part of the purchasing process.

Traditional e-commerce usually works like this: a customer visits a store, browses categories, uses the search engine, compares products, and makes a decision independently. In the Agentic Commerce model, an intelligent agent takes over some of these actions.

For example, a customer might say: "I need a laptop for graphic design, I have a budget of PLN 6000, and I want a lightweight device for travel." The AI agent analyzes the needs, reviews available options, considers technical parameters, user opinions, and customer preferences, and then proposes the best solutions.

So, it's not just the way of selling that changes, but also the way products are discovered.

Why will Agentic Commerce be the next stage of e-commerce development?

The previous online shopping model required a lot of engagement from the customer. The user had to know what they were looking for, know the right phrases, visit many pages, and analyze information independently.

The problem is that the modern consumer has less and less time and increasingly higher expectations. They want quick answers, accurate recommendations, and experiences tailored to their needs.

Artificial intelligence responds precisely to this need. Agentic Commerce shifts e-commerce from a "customer searches for a product" model to a "product is selected for the customer" model.

This is a similar change to what happened with the development of product recommendations in the largest marketplaces. However, this time the recommendations will be much more contextual and personalized.

How will Agentic Commerce change customer behavior?

The biggest change will be how users start the purchasing process. Currently, most purchasing paths begin with a search engine or by directly entering a store's website.

In the future, more and more queries may start in an AI environment. The customer will not type short phrases like "men's trekking shoes" but will conduct a conversation:

"I'm looking for shoes for a two-week trekking trip in the mountains. I have intermediate experience, I need something waterproof but lightweight."

For stores, this means a change in the approach to optimization. It will no longer be enough just to rank for specific phrases. Creating valuable data and content that allows AI to understand the product will become much more important.

The role of product data in Agentic Commerce

Data will be one of the most important resources in the age of agentic commerce. Artificial intelligence can only recommend products if it has access to complete and well-organized information.

For online store owners, this means greater attention to the product catalog. The product description should not be limited to basic parameters. It should answer customer questions, present the product's use, and highlight its advantages.

Example:

A description "winter jacket, 100% polyester, black color" provides little information.

A description "lightweight winter jacket for active people, designed for everyday use in temperatures down to -10°C, rain and wind resistant, suitable for travel and city walks" is much more valuable for AI systems.

The better the product is described, the greater the chance that the agent will match it to the right customer.

Agentic Commerce and Shopify - how to prepare your store?

Platforms like Shopify are a natural environment for the development of AI-driven sales because they already offer extensive possibilities for automation, integration, and product data management.

Shopify stores in Poland that want to prepare for Agentic Commerce should focus primarily on the quality of information in the store. Complete product cards, a logical category structure, correct technical data, and integrations enabling information exchange with external systems are crucial.

It is also worth developing elements such as:

  • intelligent product recommendations,

  • sales chatbots,

  • automated responses,

  • personalized shopping experience.

However, it is not about implementing a single AI tool, but about preparing the entire sales ecosystem.

How will the role of an online store change?

Agentic Commerce does not mean the end of online stores. On the contrary, it will change their role. The store will become not only a place for finalizing transactions but primarily a source of data and brand experience.

In traditional e-commerce, the customer comes to the store and uses its interface. In the agentic model, the customer can use various touchpoints, and the store must be prepared for presence outside its own website.

This means that brands will have to focus even more on:

  • offer quality,

  • reputation,

  • customer reviews,

  • unique brand values,

  • service quality.

Price will still be important, but it will not be the only factor determining a recommendation.

The importance of customer reviews and UGC content in Agentic Commerce

One of the most important sources of information for AI will be user-generated content. Reviews, ratings, customer photos, and questions asked by buyers provide information that cannot be found solely in the manufacturer's description.

The AI agent will be able to analyze not only product parameters but also real customer experiences.

Therefore, stores should already invest in building a review system. A large number of valuable reviews can in the future influence whether a product is deemed worthy of recommendation.

Agentic Commerce and the future of SEO

SEO will also have to evolve. Classic activities focused on individual keywords will still be important, but semantic SEO will play an increasingly significant role.

This means creating content that meets the real needs of users. Advisory articles, comparisons, buying guides, and extensive FAQs will help AI better understand the brand.

For example, a store selling cosmetics should not only describe products but also create content about skincare, customer problems, and ways to choose appropriate solutions.

The biggest challenges of Agentic Commerce

Despite its enormous potential, Agentic Commerce will also be a challenge for many companies.

The first problem will be data quality. Many stores have incomplete or inconsistent product information, which hinders proper analysis by AI.

The second challenge will be maintaining control over the customer experience. Brands will have to find a way to preserve their identity in a world where some communication will occur through intelligent agents.

The third element will be the need for continuous adaptation to new technologies. E-commerce will become even more dynamic, and companies will have to react faster to changes.

How to prepare your online store for Agentic Commerce today?

The best time to prepare your store for the AI era is now. This does not mean the need for immediate implementation of advanced systems. The most important thing is to build solid foundations.

Store owners should start by auditing product data, improving descriptions, organizing the catalog, and developing expert content.

It is also worth analyzing customer behavior, investing in automation, and testing AI solutions that support sales.

Companies that start preparing their stores now will have an advantage when shopping through AI agents becomes commonplace.

Summary

Agentic Commerce is one of the most important trends that can completely change the way e-commerce functions. The future of online sales will be based not only on websites and advertisements but also on intelligent systems that will help customers make purchasing decisions.

For online store owners, this means a change in approach. The most important thing will not only be to attract users to the store but also to make the brand understandable, credible, and valuable to AI systems.

Stores that already focus on data quality, personalization, and customer experience will be best prepared for the new era of conversational commerce.
